A lunar eclipse can only take place during a full moon when the sun, earth, and moon are almost exactly aligned with one another. During the eclipse the sun is blocked by the earth, casting a shadow over the moon and revealing the crescent shape we see. This phenomena is thought to be a symbol of new beginnings and serves as a perfect reminder that no matter how much shade is thrown on it, the moon continues to shine.
