As purveyors of handmade jewelry from up-cycled materials, Zulay and Steph Smith—the mother-daughter wonder duo behind Zass Design—knew there had to be a way to continue the life of overlooked materials without just throwing them in the trash or recycling bin. They paired some outside-the-box thinking with their design degrees, and started making earrings, necklaces, and bracelets in their spare time from their home in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2009, they took their hobby big time and created a limited edition jewelry collection to launch Zass Design.

Their modern designs and choice of materials create a perfect relationship between sustainability and your closet. Each piece tells an individual story, with a unique past, present and a future of its very own. And the designs are super cute! We're talking bright, lively, colorful and just plain fun jewelry that will highlight bright, lively, colorful and just plain fun personalities.

Zulay and Steph have spent the last 17 years teaching themselves how to make jewelry, perfecting their craft, and cultivating their commitment to respect the environment and the fundamental principles of eco-design: reduce, reuse, recycle.
