Whimsical illustrations and prints
Rani Ban is a full time artist living on a small farm in the Hudson Valley. She traded her Brooklyn apartment for an old farmhouse with ducks, chickens, goats, and peafowl. She is an illustrator, writer, accidental printmaker, and occasional ceramicist. Rani is known for her loose hand lettering, inclusive nudity, and her warm palette. She runs a small business selling her art prints, apparel, ceramics, and popular greeting card line.
As an artist, Rani strives to usher in hope with her artwork. Her whimsical illustrations and prints shed light on contemporary topics such as depression, imposter syndrome, body image issues, and finding community. She doesn’t shy away from expressing truths in a lighthearted tone, conquering the tricky balance between optimism and realism. Instead of choosing one side, she graciously weaves both perspectives into her art. For every beautiful piece of art, there are also prints gently reminding us to try again tomorrow. Rani’s work encourages us to honor all the fluctuations of being human, an everlasting sentiment that will always be relevant.
During the toughest spots of 2020, Rani made an effort to care for her neighbors by creating a cool opportunity for everyone else to care for the people around them too. She created the print series, Neighborhood Love, in which she encouraged humans to share a message of hope and solidarity in these funky, hard times. With quips like “I can’t hug you, but I can tape this sign up that says I love you,” Rani gave us the words we struggled to express.
